Licensed Medical Family Therapist Joins Contentnea Health

Licensed Medical Family Therapist J. Alex Hernandez recently joined Contentnea Health. He is practicing at the James D. Bernstein health center in Greenville.

Mr. Hernandez joins Contentnea Health after interning with the organization since 2021. He also interned for two years as a marriage and family therapist at East Carolina University Family Therapy Clinic.

He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Theology from Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, NC. Mr. Hernandez earned his Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy at East Carolina University (ECU) in Greenville. He is working toward his PhD in Medical Family Therapy at ECU.

As a licensed medical family therapist, Mr. Hernandez will provide individual, couples and family psychotherapy services. He works with patients dealing with common symptoms such as depression and anxiety as well as chronic pain. He is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy to help patients process trauma. He is bilingual in English and Spanish.
